$224

8 Hours CE

8 Hours Rx

DEA Approved

Completed by 10,000+

This 8-hour program meets the requirements of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, which requires that effective June 27, 2023 all prescribers of controlled substances must have a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education in the assessment and management of opioid or other substance use disorder in order to apply for or renew DEA registration.

The program includes principles of pain management, opioid prescribing, opioid risk assessment, legislative issues, and management of opioid-use disorder with medically assisted therapy. Additionally, the program presents non-opioid controlled substance considerations, including psycho-stimulants, benzodiazepines, appetite suppressants, and sedative hypnotics. Indications, selection, and both assessment and management of use disorders is presented. Successful completion of this program complies with eligibility requirements for initial and renewal DEA registration, and meets most state-mandated requirements for opioid prescribing.

What is the DEA training requirement under the MATE Act?

Starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners—including Nurse Practitioners—must complete a one-time 8-hour training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This requirement is part of the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act and is necessary for DEA registration and renewal.

How can I fulfill the 8-hour DEA training requirement?

You can satisfy the 8-hour DEA training requirement by enrolling in approved courses designed for Nurse Practitioners. These are available in various formats, such as on-demand self-paced courses and livestream classes. If you have already completed a portion of the requirement, 4-hour supplement courses are also available to help you meet the total 8 hours.

Are there any membership benefits for completing the DEA-required training?

Yes, DEA-required training is free with membership.

What are the options and costs for supplement courses if I have partially fulfilled my training requirement?

If you have partially fulfilled the DEA training requirement, you can choose from 4-hour on-demand, self-paced supplement courses. Options include “Controlled Substance Opioid” and “Controlled Substance Non-Opioid” courses, each costing $40. These courses are designed to help you complete the total 8-hour requirement for DEA registration.
