Pain Management Strategies for the Acute Care Provider

Pain management is a complex topic.  In the acute care setting, pain management may be focused on management for the acute condition or continued management for chronic pain conditions.  This session will discuss common strategies for treating acute and chronic pain in the acute care population. The pearls and pitfalls of each strategy will be discussed, along with alternative plans for pain control.

Geriatric Pharmacology Considerations in Acute Care

The geriatric population continues to expand. Individuals are living longer, which also increases the development of chronic diseases in these populations.  These chronic diseases require adequate management, which often includes pharmacotherapy.  This session will discuss the most recent guidelines for pharmacotherapeutic management in the geriatric population, with special considerations during episodes of acute illness.

Pneumonia Treatment in the Acute Care Setting

Pneumonia is a common diagnosis in the acute care setting. The acute care provider is responsible for treating both community-acquired pneumonia along with healthcare-associated forms of pneumonia.  This session will review and analyze the most current guidelines regarding pneumonia treatment for the acute care provider.

Critical Care Lab Diagnostics: ABG and Acid Base Balance

This session will assist the acute care provider in identifying common acid-base imbalances based on ABG findings, along with other diagnostics. This sessions will also review common causes of acid-base imbalances and strategies for evaluating and managing these imbalances.
